What Remains
David Jiménez
The deliberate ambiguity of David Jiménez´s minimalist images (Winner of the Premio Fotógrafo Revelación PhotoEspaña 99) is also a declaration of principles. These pictures apparently lack interest, and seem to enjoy a code of complicity only transmitted to the audience after a long period of observation . Photographs hiding behind visual lapses and acquiring hypnotic properties after the smallest lapse of attention. They are not obvious, but their evocative abilities fill the mundane with a poetic aura.

There is in his work a persistent gaze towards the periphery of our attention, an ecstatic gaze that discovers fascinating elements in the most banal scenes. His images emerge in a voice below silence. Taken one by one they can seem fruit of chance but the collective of his work shows a private sintaxis , coherent, and recognizeable. There is no mention of time, but its absence converts the scenes that photograph in visible mutations of the memories, Memories of instants, of experiences lived or fantasised represented through elipsis.
His photographs are a subtle exercise in constant introspection, fluid and undramatized, in open understanding with the ungovernable character of emotions.
